For some transgender women, the breasts they develop from hormone therapy alone may be what they need to feel authentic and feminine. For others, this breast tissue isn’t enough. If you want more volume in your breast, MTF breast augmentation in Austin may be a good option for you. However, before you schedule your surgery, you should know what to expect after it is done.
Downtime
After surgery, you will need to give your body the chance to rest and heal itself. Clients will need to take a minimum of a week off from all activities, including work. Some clients may require additional time. Low-impact activities can resume as soon as the client is ready. Rigorous activity should be avoided for 6 weeks.
Physical Sensation
Temporary changes in feeling and sensation are common and can range from substantial numbness to a painful hypersensitivity. These symptoms may last a couple of weeks to a couple of months and are due largely to stretching and expanding the breast with an implant. Permanent changes in breast and nipple sensation are very uncommon.
When considering MTF top surgery, it is important to have realistic expectations about physical sensation.
Seeing Results
Swelling and minor bruising are a normal part of MTF breast augmentation recovery. It can take a few weeks for this to go down, and a few months before the swelling is gone and the breasts achieve their final shape and size. Because the tissues in MTF breast augmentation are naturally tight before surgery, extra time is required for the body to adjust to the new look and shape. This means that it may be 4 to 6 months before you can get a good idea of what your breasts will look like.
All aspects of recovery must be discussed during your MTF top surgery planning period. While this surgery can be lifechanging, it isn’t right for every woman. To learn more about what surgery could look like for you, contact us to schedule a consultation.
