Over the last 10 years the term Mommy Makeover has entered our vocabulary and there are no less than 7 million search results available for the topic. Yet many people are confused about the term means.
The safest description of the term is some type of procedure on the abdomen (tummy tuck, abdominoplasty, mini-tummy tuck, etc) combined with a breast procedure (breast lift, mastopexy, breast augmentation, breast implants, etc.), although there can be a great degree of variability in choices.
Pregnancy, childbirth and breast feeding can take a toll on a women’s body, resulting in breasts that are more saggy and sometimes smaller with or without breastfeeding. The abdominal can be stretched, resulting in stretch marks and/or loss of tone in the abdominal wall that no amount of sit-ups will repair.
Other procedures are such as liposuction on legs or arms are also added, but we like to limit the number of hours in the operating room for patient safety.
One of the advantages of the Mommy Makeover concept is that it allows patients to take care of the two most common complaints (breast and abdomen) with one surgery rather than two, with one trip to the OR, one recovery and usually less cost to combine the two procedures.
Our patients here in the Austin, Killeen and Central Texas area generally find that they can return to work within 7-10 days for jobs with minimal physical demands whereas more strenuous occupations may take more time.
