Microneedling can be an effective treatment for people who may not be good candidates for laser skin treatments, and can be done on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, midsection, back and legs.*
On the day of your microneedling, your appointment should take about an hour. A topical numbing cream will be applied to your treatment area first and a small sample of your blood will be drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. Once your skin is numb, the SkinPen device uses very fine needles to prick the top layer of your skin, after being adjusted to control the depth and speed of the needles. The clear platelet-rich plasma is then applied over the treatment area to promote healing and collagen growth.*
Although you may see a subtle change in your skin immediately, your results will be gradual as your body ramps up collagen production. You should see a noticeable change in your skin after 4 to 8 weeks. Yearly SkinPen appointments may help maintain your results.*
The exact price for SkinPen treatment will vary from person to person. Factors that can alter the cost include the size of the area being treated, how many sessions are needed, what products are used during the sessions, and where you get the treatment. Prices tend to range from $100 to $700 per session.
How does SkinPen work?
SkinPen is a type of microneedling treatment. Microneedling is a treatment that works by taking advantage of the natural healing processes of our body. When the skin is injured, it starts to dissolve damaged tissue and replace it with new cells, increasing collagen and elastin production as it does.
Microneedling creates controlled “micro-wounds” in the skin at a precise depth. This triggers new cellular turnover as well as collagen and elastin production to help the skin appear more plump and full. All this is done in a very controlled manner to prevent scar tissue from developing.
What are the benefits of SkinPen?
In addition to helping skin appear younger, it can also be used to address sun damage, reduce the appearance of acne scars and stretch marks and help lower hyperpigmentation.
How many SkinPen treatments will I need?
There is no set number of treatments that is considered optimal. Your doctor will determine how many sessions you need to achieve your desired results during your consultation. However, be aware that this might change based on how you respond to SkinPen treatment.
Keep in mind that this form of treatment is ongoing. While you will achieve optimal results after a certain number of sessions, maintenance will be needed if you want to keep your hair from regrowing.
How do I find the best SkinPen provider near me?
While microneedling is a fairly common treatment, the SkinPen system is not. Ideally, you will be able to find a provider near you. If you do, schedule a consultation to determine how comfortable you feel with them and if you would like to proceed with treatment.
Do I need to use specific skin products after getting SkinPen treatment?
While we recommend certain products or ingredients, there is no specific line of skin products you must use after your SkinPen treatments. If there are specific products you are very attached to, you are welcome to keep using them. We can also customize the products used during treatment sessions based on your preferences.
What should I expect directly after treatment?
Every person responds differently to SkinPen treatment. Most people experience slight redness, similar to a mild sunburn, for up to 4 days post-treatment. Factors that can make your reaction more or less severe include how extensive the damage is, the depth of the repair process and how aggressive treatment is.
Can SkinPen be used on all Fitzpatrick skin types?
Yes, it is considered safe on all skin types.
Who should avoid getting SkinPen treatment?
Use of SkinPen is not recommended in patients with:
