BOTOX® Cosmetic

Does your face look angry, tired or older than you are despite how you feel? Over time, facial expressions and movements can cause wrinkles and lines to form around your eyes, across your forehead, by your mouth and on your neck. BOTOX injections can temporarily relax specific facial muscles to soften lines and wrinkles. BOTOX can also be an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive armpit sweating.*

Dr. David Dellinger maintains board certifications in both plastic/reconstructive and general surgery, and has more than 20 years of experience performing surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments. At Elysian Plastic Surgery, Dr. Dellinger works with men and women in the Austin area and beyond who are interested in improving their appearances with non-surgical treatments.

Contact us online or call our Austin office at 512-229-1978 to learn more your options for non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

Best Candidates for BOTOX

BOTOX may be right for healthy men and women who would like to see fewer facial wrinkles and have realistic expectations. BOTOX can smooth away crow’s feet, laugh lines, frown lines, furrows on the forehead, bunny lines on the nose, marionette and other lines around the mouth, chin creases, neck lines and bands. BOTOX may also lift the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth, soften the jawline, lessen the appearance of dimpled skin on the chin and help you show less of your gums when you smile.*

The best candidates for BOTOX injections to treat hyperhidrosis are adults who haven’t seen adequate results from topical medications to reduce underarm sweating. BOTOX reduces sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that activate the sweat glands.*

What to Expect

During your initial consultation, Dr. Dellinger and his staff will talk with you about your concerns and hopes for BOTOX. Keep in mind that BOTOX may not be the most effective treatment for you, and Dr. Dellinger may recommend a different treatment or a combination of products. BOTOX can be combined with other treatment options, such as JUVÉDERM®, Sculptra® Aesthetic or laser skin treatments.*

Dr. Dellinger may also suggest BOTOX to complement your results from facial plastic surgery, such as using BOTOX after eyelid surgery to treat crow’s feet.*

On the day of your BOTOX treatment, your injections may only take about 15 to 20 minutes. Although getting BOTOX is quick, it’s not simple. BOTOX injections need to be precisely placed to ensure the best results and retain your natural expressions so your face doesn’t look frozen. Your treatment may include several injections depending on the number of treatment areas and your wrinkles. You may feel a small pinch during the BOTOX injections. A topical numbing cream or ice can be used for your comfort.*

Your BOTOX Recovery & Results

You can get back to your daily routine right after your BOTOX injections. You should avoid rubbing the treatment area at first because your BOTOX could move and affect your results.*

BOTOX starts working within 24 to 48 hours and you may see a difference within a few days. Your final results should be visible after 7 to 10 days. BOTOX injections are temporary and wrinkles will return as the effects wear off. BOTOX results typically last 3 to 4 months.*

BOTOX injections to treat hyperhidrosis should significantly reduce armpit sweating within 4 weeks. Your results will be temporary.*

BOTOX® FAQs

How much do BOTOX injections cost?

The cost of BOTOX injections varies based on a number of conditions, including the experience of your provider and your geographical location. In addition, how much your injections cost will depend on how much BOTOX is required. For example, if you are treating deep, advanced wrinkles, you may need more product than someone treating the early signs of aging. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that the average cost of BOTOX injections was $397.

How do I find a qualified BOTOX provider near me?

When looking for a BOTOX provider near you, it is essential to do your research. While BOTOX clinics, and even home BOTOX parties, are popping up everywhere, BOTOX is a specialty treatment and should be performed by a trained practitioner. Find a provider that you feel comfortable with and that listens to and addresses your concerns.

Am I a candidate for BOTOX injections?

The best candidates for BOTOX injections are healthy men and women that are unhappy with the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, or those that occur due to facial muscle movement. These include glabella lines (those fine lines between the eyebrows), crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and bunny lines (fine lines on the bridge of the nose).

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases, you should not receive BOTOX injections.

Are BOTOX treatments painful?

In most cases, discomfort is minimal during BOTOX injections. In order to maximize your comfort, topical anesthetic or a cold compress may be applied before treatment begins.

Will I have any downtime with BOTOX injections?

BOTOX injections typically do not require any downtime or time off from work. You may experience temporary redness and swelling immediately after treatment but applied ice compresses can help relieve this discomfort. In most cases, you are ready to return to regular activity immediately after treatments.

Can I have BOTOX with other cosmetic procedures?

BOTOX injections address dynamic facial wrinkles caused by muscle movement. However, that is not always the only facial concerns a person may have. In addition to dynamic wrinkles, signs of aging may include static wrinkles and the loss of facial volume.

In this case, dermal fillers, like JUVÉDERM, may help to reduce the appearance of these wrinkles and restore more youthful facial volume. Because both of these injectables target different concerns, many opt to combine BOTOX and dermal fillers in the same appointment, resulting in more complete rejuvenation with no downtime.

Are there any risks with BOTOX injections?

BOTOX injections are performed every day. While they are considered safe, as with any cosmetic procedure, there is the possibility of risks and complications. These can include discomfort at the injection site, dry mouth, double vision, blurred vision, headache, allergic reactions, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping and brow drooping.

Am I too young or too old for BOTOX treatments?

As people age differently, there is no right or wrong age to start BOTOX treatments. Many people in their 20s start to show early signs of aging and opt for BOTOX treatments as a preventative measure. On the other hand, many are blessed with younger-looking skin well into their later years and don’t turn to BOTOX until their 60s or later.
