Wrinkles are a natural side effect of aging. There’s nothing you can do to prevent aging from happening, but you can address its unwanted effects with cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic surgery is often expensive and requires a longer recovery time. That’s where Juvederm can help.
What Is Juvederm?
Juvederm is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is used to address severe and moderate facial folds and wrinkles without those long healing times. It offers nine to twelve months of smooth, wrinkle-free skin.
Juvederm is minimally invasive, meaning it doesn’t require any scalpels or incisions. Instead, it is injected into the desired area.
While some hyaluronic acid gel products are granular in consistency, Juvederm has a smoother feel. Juvederm is specially developed using Hylacross technology in order to provide a smooth, malleable gel. The substance used in the injections, hyaluronic acid, is a synthetic version of a sugar that occurs naturally in the body.
After the substance has been administered via injections, it acts as a cushioning agent and holds in water at the site of the injection. It gives your skin a smoother, more youthful appearance while also adding volume. Unlike so many other cosmetic treatments, results start manifesting after the very first treatment!
Who Is a Less than Ideal Candidate for This Procedure?
The Juvederm formula should not be used for patients who have severe allergies due to a history of anaphylaxis or other severe allergies. Patients who use blood thinners are less than ideal candidates for this procedure. If you’re currently pregnant, under 18, or breastfeeding, it’s safer to stay away from this procedure until a later time.
Should I Expect Any Pain During the Injection Process?
Although some discomfort is experienced, Juvederm injections are bearable and do not generally cause much pain. The Juvederm formula is injected directly into the skin using a thin needle, so you may feel pressure in certain places more than you feel pain. Some Juvederm injections even contain an anesthetic agent that minimizes the discomfort of the whole procedure. Discuss the use of anesthetics with your doctor prior to your treatment.
What Should I Expect After the Procedure?
Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and direct exposure to sunlight during the first 24 hours after the surgery. Exposure to any of the abovementioned things can lead to swelling, redness, and itching at the site of the injection. If you experience swelling, placing an ice pack over the area that’s swollen can usually help. Wait a few days to apply makeup after you’ve had the procedure done. Ask your doctor about the exact time you should wait to be safe.
How Long Should I Expect Juvederm to Last?
As with any other cosmetic dermal filler procedure, Juvederm has an expiration date where you will have to go in for another treatment in order to keep your skin looking smooth and youthful. The effects of the first injection can last up to nine months. You’ll have to go in for another treatment if you want to continue having smooth skin. After the first procedure, only smaller amounts of the hyaluronic acid will be needed.
