It might seem like a natural choice to combine two major procedures at the same time, like a tummy tuck and hysterectomy. However, there are a few things you’ll need to keep in mind to decide if combining a tummy tuck with a hysterectomy is the right option for you.

  1. Talk to Your Gynecologist and Plastic Surgeon

First and foremost, you’ll need to talk with both your gynecologist and an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon to make sure both parties are on board. In some cases, one or both of your doctors may suggest performing each procedure separately to reduce complications.

Otherwise, as long as both doctors feel that you could safely reap the benefits of a tummy tuck combined with hysterectomy, these procedures can absolutely be scheduled as one.

  2. Be Prepared for a Brief Hospital Stay

After a tummy tuck by itself, most people are able to return home that same day. But with a hysterectomy, you’ll most likely need to stay in the hospital at least overnight, but sometimes for a few nights.

One of the benefits of combining your hysterectomy with a tummy tuck is that you’ll only need to get anesthesia once, and you’ll only have one recovery period.

  3. Do What’s Best for You

At the end of the day, every woman is different and has to factor in her unique circumstances when deciding if a combined procedure is worth it. While a tummy tuck and hysterectomy can be combined in some cases, it’s best to check with your doctors before deciding what to do.
